For the past 32 years, I’ve brushed my dogs’ teeth every night. Realizing that not all pet parents tend to their dogs’ teeth, I decided to try the PetLab Co Dental Powder for Dogs called Probright Advanced.
Many dogs aren’t fond of having their teeth manually brushed. Luckily, PetLab Co. dental products can be sprinkled on top of food, so you don’t have to struggle with a toothbrush or a fussy dog. PetLab Co. asked if my Cocker Spaniel, Sir Alvin, might be interested in trying out their Probright Advanced Dental Powder.
In addition to being a dedicated dog mama, I work as a copywriter, content marketer, and pet product expert in the pet industry. I ask the questions pet parents demand answers to and thoroughly research any pet product that crosses our desk.
This in-depth product review is for you if any of the following apply:
- Your dog hates having their teeth brushed
- You want proactive dental care you can do at home
- You like the idea of sprinkling a dental powder for dogs into your pup’s daily meals
- You pride yourself on being the best pet parent you can be

What Is PetLab Co. Dental Powder for Dogs Probright Advanced?
Probright Advanced by PetLab Co. is a powdered form of dog dental care. It comes in a plastic container the company calls a ‘tub.’ Pet parents choose the tub size based on their dog’s weight. Since my Cocker Spaniel is around 26 pounds, we need the 25 to 75 pound container.
Pro Tip: If you order through PetLab’s site, you’ll see a breakdown of the cost per day. In our case, one tub with 30 servings costs $1.30 per day.
Each scoop contains a proprietary blend of probiotics along with other ingredients to target tartar buildup. Here’s a full list of active and inactive ingredients:

Inactive Ingredients: Calcium Bentonite, Dried Brewer’s Yeast, Hydrolyzed Chicken Liver Flavor, Spinach Powder
Probright Advanced is not designed to scrape tartar like a toothbrush. Instead, it alters your dog’s saliva internally and targets new tartar that is trying to harden. The brown seaweed (Ascophyllum nodosum) is the heavy hitter to soften or help slow tartar formation.
Probright Advanced (or other dental powders for dogs) will not remove existing thick tartar. It is, however, designed to soften and slow down the buildup of new tartar so it flakes off more easily. I continued to brush my dog’s teeth nightly throughout the 30-day trial of Probright Advanced. If you don’t brush your dog’s teeth regularly, the tartar should flake off easier as your dog chews.

Who Is PetLab Co.?
I never give my dog any product without understanding who the manufacturer is and why they are in the pet industry.
Inspired by his own dog’s wellness needs, co-founder and CEO Christopher Masanto partnered with fellow founders to launch the brand in 2018 as a science-backed pet supplement company. I appreciate that PetLab Co. is all about trust and transparency.
The brand has earned industry respect for its commitment to quality, backed by certifications from the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
PetLab Co. collaborates with top nutritionists, veterinary, and pet health experts to develop products that are not only effective but also rigorously tested and supported by research.
Dr. Jan Bellows, a board-certified veterinary dentist and consultant, says, “The findings from the clinical trial confirm the effectiveness of ProBright Advanced against bad breath.”
PetLab Co. is headquartered in London, England, but has offices in New York City. It manufactures all its products in the United States using domestic and globally sourced ingredients.
Our Hands-On Experience
My dog, Sir Alvin, is a 3-year-old American Cocker Spaniel with a few food sensitivities and environmental allergies. In conjunction with his veterinarian’s approval, we began the Probright Advanced dental powder journey slowly.
Sir Alvin has a sensitive tummy and has been on a daily probiotic since one year of age. His tummy issues are under control, and I didn’t want to rock the boat by adding another probiotic to his diet. So I stopped his daily probiotic in favor of Probright Advanced dental powder for dogs for 30 days.
We started with less than the recommended amount just in case Sir Alvin would get an upset stomach. After one week on a lower dose, we increased to the recommended daily serving for his weight, which was one provided scoop of product.
It has a clean scent and mixes easily into my dog’s food. Sir Alvin eats soft, rehydrated vegetables and a rotating protein, and the Probright Advanced is easily absorbed into his food. He tends to be a bit fussy with food and treats, but adding Probright Advanced wasn’t an issue for us. If you feed kibble, the company recommends wetting the kibble before mixing the product in.
Sir Alvin recently had a veterinarian wellness visit and received a clean bill of health, knock on wood. We started this trial with healthy teeth, hoping to stop tartar in its tracks. I liked how easy it was to use, how my dog took to it like a boss, and that it didn’t require refrigeration. I stored it in a dark, cool cabinet in the kitchen.
Breath and Teeth Results After 30 Days
I’m a dog mom who believes the proof is in the pudding, or in this case, the testing. Granted, we started with clean teeth, but there’s always room for improvement. My goal in using Probright Advanced is to stop tartar build-up in its tracks so it easily scrapes or brushes off.
In the first photo is Sir Alvin’s before photo and then the after on the right:

My dog is picky about anything new added to his food, and he never balked or turned his nose up. I also appreciate that he never had any tummy or digestive issues (e.g., gassiness or occasional diarrhea) during the 30-day test. Sir Alvin never had “bad breath,” but he does sometimes have fishy breath due to the fish oil Omega-3s I add to his diet. I noticed an immense decrease in Sir Alvin’s fish breath, to which I had become accustomed.
As I continued to brush his teeth nightly, I felt good knowing tartar didn’t stand a chance thanks to the proprietary blend of probiotics, other ingredients, and the green tea with rosemary extract.
Pro Tip: Caring for your dog’s teeth is important. Over 80 percent of dogs experience dental issues by age three. I am happy to report my dog does not!
Pros and Cons
Like all pet products, there are pros and cons. Remember, nothing is a complete substitute for veterinary care, a thorough dental exam and cleaning, and regular care to your dog’s teeth and gums outside of vet visits.
Pros
- Easy to use: Scooping the right amount into my dog’s meal daily is a breeze.
- Helps fresh breath: I like that the product helps freshen bad breath.
- Made in the USA formula with premium globally sourced ingredients: This is important to me, especially with the extra seals of approval.
- My picky pooch accepted it: If you have a diva dog or a picky pup like mine, we never had an issue with turned up noses or refusing to eat his food.
- Helps soften or reduce tartar: While we don’t deal with extreme tartar, I love that Probright Advanced powder helps soften the tartar so it’s much easier to remove. For us, that’s with a toothbrush.
- Easy to store and travel with: No refrigeration is required, and it is easy to take on the go for day trips, vacations, etc.
- No brushing required: You do not need to use a dog-friendly toothbrush to use this product.
Cons
- It will not remove heavy tartar: Not so much a con, but you must be realistic. No product is going to take off heavy tartar that’s been left to solidify on a dog’s teeth for years.
- Contains hydrolyzed chicken liver flavor: My dog has food sensitivities, and chicken is one of the offending agents. However, PetLab Co’s Probright Advanced uses hydrolyzed chicken liver, which is broken down into tiny protein fragments for easier digestion. If your dog is highly intolerant, consider this (please consult your veterinarian first.) However, dogs with sensitive tummies should go slow with this product so you can monitor their gut’s reaction.
- The product is not inexpensive. At $1.30 per day for my dog’s dental care, it is worth it. However, if you have several dogs, it can become costly.
- Once opened, the product must be used within eight months. One tub generally lasts a month, so this should not be an issue if used properly. However, pay attention to the expiration or best by date on the container.

Final Verdict and Thoughts
We all want our dogs to live long, happy, healthy lives. I recommend this product to pet parents who have a dental routine or want to add a brushless product to their dog’s daily regimen. Nothing replaces a dental cleaning or dental checkups by your veterinarian, just like people.
After 30 days, I am pleased with the hands-on trial of Probright Advanced by PetLab Co. Its simplicity made it a welcome addition to our routine. If you’d prefer to give your dog a powder versus a dental chew or are struggling with brushing, Probright Advanced is worth it.
Where to Purchase Probright Advanced
